Cultivating Confidence

I took a stand with a friend a few days ago who was trying to talk me into doing something I didn’t want to do.  And although I was clear in the moment I found myself feeling guilty afterwards.  Deep down, I knew the stand that I took was appropriate but the caregiver in me still has trouble saying no sometimes.  As a way to alleviate my guilt I began to search for an affirmation that would help bring me back to balance.  I went  through each of the chakras as a way to methodically begin my search.  I started with the crown chakra and repeated:  I serve the oneness.  Nice affirmation I say to myself, but I can feel that it’s not releasing my turmoil.  I move to the third eye:  I am wise.  Well that is nice too, but no go.  Still feeling out of balance, I then move to the throat chakra, I am filled with confidence. And there it is.  I feel my energy shift and suddenly I see that my issue is a confidence issue.  When I affirmed confidence I very quickly began to feel better and I also became clear on where my work resided.

And so for today, lets all  work on our throat chakra and cultivating confidence. The throat chakra is the center for confidence, expression, power, self eestem, growth and learning.*  As you work on cultivating confidence you help to strengthen the throat chakra.

And so lets begin with the affirmation:

I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.

I am confident that I am spirit.
I am confident that I am good.
I am confident that I am learning.
I am confident that by being true to myself, I serve everyone.

I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.

“And so let go now of the need to be right or wrong and simply sit in the confidence of your being.  You are spirit and you are good.  You are spirit and you are learning and you are growing.  There is a place of great confidence that lies within you.  To access this confidence you can simply relax into that part of you that is already confident.

Your spirit, your true self, your enlightened self is confident.  Your spirit is wise.  Your spirit is powerful.  Relax now into your true identity.  Relax into your true confident nature.  Remember who you are.  Remember who you are.  You are a being of great light and you deserve to be treated well.  You are a being of great light and you are here to take care of yourself.  You are a being of great light and you are here to be of service to yourself and others as well.  Sometimes you serve best by saying a firm no.  And so do not feel guilty for saying no.  Many need to learn appropriate behavior. When you continually reward and condone inappropriate behavior you strengthen the weakness in others.  When you put your foot down you not only show respect for yourself you also demonstrate to others what will and won’t be tolerated.  Do not be afraid of being firm. Sometimes the people you are dealing with are like children who will push the boundries whenever possible. It does not serve to allow them to get away with pushing. And so learn to become comfortable saying no.   Be firm and be gentle for all are learning.”

And so step into your confidence now and affirm daily:

I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.

“Feel the confidence that lies within you.  Feel the confidence of your spirit.  Again, do not be afraid to be firm.  Do not be afraid to say no.  Sometimes the no is what is needed.  Sometimes we serve the oneness by saying yes and sometimes we serve the oneness by saying no.  Do not let the response of others dictate your actions.  You may at times do something that is completely appropriate and those involved will become angry or upset, just because they are angry does not mean that you did anything wrong.  Allow your own inner spirit to guide you in appropriate action.  Look for approval from spirit not from others.  Others often have hidden agendas and wounds that block their ability to see clearly.  And so be the one who listens to spirit. Aspire to listen deeply and let go of your need for approval.  Allow your confidence to be very separate from whether you receive approval or not.  For approval is always fleeting.  One moment you’ve got it and the next moment it is gone.  Seek the approval of spirit whose love for you is consistent and who is always guiding you on your path of growth and learning.”

Feel the confidence of your spirit now.  Affirm often:

I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.

Allow this to be your affirmation for the day.  Be aware how you feel as you fill yourself with confidence.  Be confident that you are spirit.  Be confident that there is a place of greatness that lies within you.  Be confident that you are learning and growing and be confident that you are never alone.

I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.

As you step into your confidence greater clarity will follow.  Often we try to get clear so that we can feel confident.  Try working it in reverse today.  Step into your true confidence.  Step into the confidence of your spirit and greater wisdom and clarity will be the bi product.  As you step into your confidence you create a light and a surety.  This light and surety will then connect you to the natural wisdom that lies within.  So step into confidence first and allow wisdom and clarity to follow.  Let this be your experiment for today.  Embody confidence and see what happens.

I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.
I am filled with confidence.

Everyone can be a healer

So why would you want to come to my energy healing workshop you ask?  You want to come to this class for several reasons.  First, it’s very impressive to be able to move energy with your hands and your friends will think that you are really cool.  Okay, maybe that is not the best reason to attend!

All joking aside, I think that energy healing is a basic skill that everyone should know how to do.  I had the good fortune of studying with a teacher who believes that EVERYONE has the ability to be a healer just like everyone has the ability to read.  Tom Tam, my acupuncture and energy healing teacher, would always say “monkey see, monkey do.”  If I can do it you can do it.  He believes that with simple training the healer in each one of us can be awakened.

I tell a story in my new book, Tong Ren Chakra Balancingabout a time when I was lying in the sun at Puffers Pond when suddenly a man crawled out of the water and literally collapsed on the edge of my towel writhing in pain.  I jumped up and just started doing the energy healing technique that I had just learned a few days before (this was about 15 years ago).  The man yelled out to his friend who was witnessing all this,  “its working, its working and its not the placebo affect”.

Over and over again in my life I have been thankful that I have energy healing tools that I can use anytime, anywhere to help others.  It comes in handy every single day.  Yes, I know that I am a healer, but all of us come in contact with a crying baby, or a friend who is upset, or we simply find that we ourselves are in need of healing.  I believe, like my teacher Tom, that we are all healers and that with some simple training the healer in each one of us can be awakened.

It is on this note that I would like to announce some changes to my upcoming workshop.  Due to feedback I have received I have decided to change the workshop to a one-day workshop that will happen on Saturday June 22nd.  The cost of the workshop is $150 but you can bring a friend for free!  Yes, you heard it right….you can bring a friend for free.  I want to empower people with these skills and its fun to have a full house so grab a friend or sign up with your child or call me to see if I know of someone who is looking for a friend to bring to the workshop.  Its going to be a fun, practical, educational and empowering day.

At the end of the day you will have skills to assist anyone in any situation.  You will know how to use your hands to channel healing energy and you will also know how to do a basic Tong Ren Chakra Balancing treatment that can be done in person or at a distance.  I have taught this workshop a few times now and the feedback has always been great.  Class members often go home that evening and work on their children or their friends.  Healers who take this class are able to incorporate what they learn the very next day.  These are skills that can be used everyday for the rest of your life.

If you would like to talk to me about this class or if you would like to register feel free to call or email me.  I really look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Hayley Mermelstein

If I didn’t have to do it perfectly I would……

I spent the day this past Sunday out in the sun and the water with a close friend and her children.  I went to bed feeling content and satisfied.  At exactly 2:00 a.m. I awoke out of a dead sleep with one loud thought looming over me.  The thought was “WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE WRITING ABOUT THE SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLES?  The thought did not come as a friendly sort of question.  No, it came as a sarcastic, cutting kind of thought….at 2:00 a.m. none the less, when i was at my lowest ability to guard myself against it.  I answered back, “I’m tired, go away, I need sleep.”  Fortunately, I was able to turn over and fall back asleep but when I awoke the next morning the thought reappeared.  “Who are you to write about the spiritual principles?  Are you such an expert at living life?”  I sat with these not so friendly questions and started to feel insecure.  Who am I to write like I do?  I really am no expert on human living.  There are many who seem to do a better job of it than I, after all.  And yet, at the same time, I reasoned with myself, I do like to write.  I really like to write.  I really don’t even care if I’m particularly good at it or even if I get a lot of approval around it. (a little approval is nice…I have to admit!)  It’s my creative expression, I said to myself.    As I thought about this more I remembered a turning point for me that occurred in a class I took while I attended Integrative Nutrition in New York City.  The guest speaker posed a question to the large group.  The question was:  “If I didn’t have to do it perfectly I would…….?”  She asked the same question 5 times.  Each time we were instructed to write down our answer.  “If I didn’t have to do it perfectly I would?  If I didn’t have to do it perfectly I would?  If I didn’t have to do it perfectly I would?  I remember my first answer very vividly which was I would produce guided meditation cd’s.  I don’t remember the other answers at this moment but that first one was the one that stood out.  Ever since that time when a meditation descends upon me (that is often how it feels) I write them down.  It felt a little lonely just collecting them on my computer (about 80 or 90 so far) so I decided to start to share them with all of you.  I’ve even recorded a couple.  My guided meditation calledChakra Balancing is available as a cd or mp3 download and the gold light series is available as an mp3.  I’ve heard back from clients and friends that the cds have really helped them.

The question:  What would you do if you didn’t have to do it perfectly, is a good question to ask yourself from time to time.  None of us are perfect and ironically we often wind up teaching what it is that we most need to learn.  So take a chance.  Dare to write or dare to create or dare to start that project you’ve been thinking about but not sure if you were good enough.  If we all waited until we were perfect to start  we’d all be waiting along time.

Just be prepared for that 2:00 a.m. voice that may wake you from time to time.  Tell it its late and to go away.  With any luck…it will.

Also don’t miss our Tong Ren Chakra Balancing training weekend.  When you tap on a doll for healing and the person you are working with feels energy coursing through  their body and the pain they were having suddenly disappears they will think you are really cool.  Well cool and a little freeky!  It’s a great way to get attention.

Of course, you just may learn a technique where you can significantly help somebody as well.
