Life is a battlefield.

My eyes were closed and I was being directed to walk down a flight of stairs in my mind’s eye. I was being directed to see a door at the end of the stair case and then open the door and walk into a past life. I followed the directions while in this meditative state and suddenly I was in a past life.

I was a battlefield nurse and there were wounded men as far as the eye could see. There were only two nurses (me and one other) on the field to help these men. I was overwhelmed with the all suffering that was around me and I wanted to help. But there were only two of us and hundreds of wounded men all around me.

A knowing came over me and I understood that I simply had to focus on the men I felt I could help and walk past the ones I could not assist. There was need everywhere and I was only one person. I simply could not help everyone. I had to focus on the ones that I could assist.

I was recounting this past life regression to a friend recently and she said: life is like that battlefield. There is need everywhere and we can’t help everyone. We can only help the ones we are called to help.

A teacher of mine says: Everyone needs and if you respond to need you will become drained.

And so all of this is part of my life lesson and maybe a part of your life lesson as well. Everyone needs and if we respond to need we will become drained. And so, we must ask ourselves daily: What is mine to do and what is not mine to do? We each have a pillar of light to hold up and if we try to hold up other people’s pillar of light we will drop our own.

And so for today focus on holding up your pillar of light. Sometimes in holding up your own pillar of light you will naturally want to help those around us. Sometimes you will find that assisting others will cause you to drop your own pillar of light and not do the one thing you are here to do.

And so ask frequently: What is my part? What is mine to do?

Be like the battlefield nurse.

Learn to walk past what is not yours to do and to attend to that which is yours to do. Listen deeply so that you will know what is yours to do and what is not yours to do.

At the deepest level there is consensus about what is right for the whole.
At the deepest level we are in agreement.

There may be those who want you to drop your pillar of light to assist them.
Have compassion for the human condition but do not abandon that which you are here to do.

Remember if you respond to need you will become drained.

Instead listen deeply to the whispers of spirit within you and all around you and you will know what is yours to do and what is not yours to do.

Listen deeply and you will be guided.

Learn to see those around you as capable of solving their own problems.

You are not the answer to everyone’s problems and inserting yourself where you do not belong is a waste of your energy and an interference to those you wish to assist.

Listen deeply and you will be guided.
At the deepest level there is consensus about what is right for the whole.

Seek to do your part and you will be satisfied.
Seek to hold up your pillar of light and offer the contribution that you came to offer.

Everyone needs.

Listen deeply and you will know what is yours to do and what is not yours to do.
Listen deeply and you will be guided.

Be like the battlefield nurse.

Go where you are called to go.

Hold up your pillar of light now and offer the contribution that you came to offer.
Hold up your pillar of light and shine brightly.

The world needs your light.
Offer your full contribution.

The world needs your light.
Offer your full contribution.
